So I've been watching videos about it for a while now and i have to ask, what does /fit/ think about parkour/freerunning. Is it as good as hitting the gym? And are they really as careful about joint damage as they say they are?

Pic related.

It's worthless for fitness.

Only do it if you enjoy it.

Looks like this fat fuck is mad,
logical, it seems that it would be beneficial towards your health, might not replace hardcore stationary bike cardio, but still.

Parkour is pretty fucking good for your fitness, it's ALL bodyweight though, so expect to hit the gym if you want nice strength and lots of muss.

Parkour and Freerunning is pretty damaging on your body if you do it wrong. If you wanna get into it proper without any problems I'd recommend going to the gym at the same time as learning. WEIGHTED SQUATS will save your knees etc.

Go for it, look for people in your local community and try it. Don't pay for any classes they're worthless when anyone who does it will help you for free anyway.

OP here. So I've been looking around, and it turns out theres a small knot or traceurs in my city and they're really cool. The only thing I'm still worried about is joint damage. What does /fit/ reccomend for that?

First off, if you dont already take a multivitamin, start now.
Get some Glucosomine-chonodritin and fish oil supplements, and drink plenty of milk. maybe even some calcium pills.

I still stand by this. It's just an inefficient way of training.

If you want cardio/V02 max then do some sprints.
If you want endurance do some running.
If you want strength lift some weights.
If you want flexibility do some plyometrics or yoga.

Even gymnastics would be better than parkour.

Parkour is like martial arts, rarely useful but fun to do.

If you do it instead of staying home and watching TV then I say go for it but it won't replace proper workouts. It can be motivating though, as you have an application for your strength and cardio training.

Also, good for showing off.
