So I just read : http://www.cracked.com/article/127_5-ways-to-hack-your-brain-into-awesomeness/
And was wondering whether anyone here has actually tried #5(taking six, 20-30 minute power naps, every four hours during the day)?

Also, any advice for gaining more awake time?

neil strauss mentions that he and mystery tried it in his book "The Game".

you pretty much can't have any hourly job because who would allow a 30 minute nap for less than 4 hours of work? it works but near impossible for most of america.

I read that too. When i looked a little deeper, it turns out its a complete load of crap. REM sleep is important, but we're just now learning that non-REM sleep is important as well. It also induces sleep deprivation, which can cause all sorts of crazy things like blood pressure fluctuations and metabolism changes. The only time it is useful is under high pressure situations: sleeping in naps of six 30 min makes you more alert than one solid 3 hour block, although both induce sleep dep.

put rat on top of upside-down plant pot thats just big enough for it, surrounded by water
it falls asleep
during light sleep it stays on pot
goes into deep sleep, muscles relax more
falls off, wakes up, climbs back on
repeat
rats brain gets fucked and it acts weird

deep sleep = necessary

Wasn't his death stress induced due to, since rats are land creatures, being in a pool just low enough for it's nose to not get wet unless it goes into deep sleep?

If rats died of stress in wet conditions, we wouldn't have so many of the fuckers in our sewers.

I have started on a similar schedule to the one mentioned in the article, but I'm wondering about what effect it will have on my work in the gym. It feels like the lack of deep sleep will hurt a lot, and probably make gains impossible, but I was wondering if it would be possible to maintain muscle mass on a schedule like this?
